What is the literature for academic training "Database Systems and Database Theory"?

Hi all.
I want to do some serious academic training in Databases. There is an opportunity to continue your education abroad, but it is not specialized. Hence the problem - you need to show deep knowledge in the field of databases. A year and a half to prepare.
Recommend English/Russian literature.
