What is the difference between a single memory module (RAM) and a kit?
Hello again!
I wanted to increase the memory on the recently purchased Mac Mini (I stopped at 8GB), and when I started looking for what to buy, I found that the strips are sold individually, and in sets (In my case, consisting of two pieces).
I could not find an answer, what is the fundamental difference between them, Wikipedia says this:
Dual channel mode can be obtained by using an even number of DIMMs.
To enable dual-channel mode, the following conditions must be met:
- same DIMM configuration per channel;
- the same capacity (128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, etc.);
- memory channels A and B must be identical;
- on most motherboards (with rare exceptions) symmetrical memory slots (slot 0 or slot 1) must be populated
That is, in dual-channel mode, memory of the same frequency, of the same type will work. Memory of different sizes will work if all conditions are met.
