What is the correct way to distribute applications under GNU?

The question is the following.
CoolReader for Android is distributed under the GNU GPL v2 license.
Can I take the program, make my own changes to it, add my books and distribute the program no longer for free?
Will the google market accept such an application?

Apple accepts such applications, but this violates the GPL: you cannot put it on more than 5 devices.
Therefore, VLC was constantly closed by one of the authors of the original code.
