What is the correct implementation of the imap collector?

I am writing an imap(perl) assembler. The question arose, if the user marks the letter as deleted, what should happen to the letter from where I collected everything? Delete it completely, or move it to the trash, or maybe create a separate folder for such letters? If I mark the letter with the /Deleted gmail flag and yandex, for example, deletes it completely, our work mail is placed in the trash. What is the correct implementation?
