What is the best wifi router, without marketing gimmicks?

Hello! I've been on the Airport Express for several years now. Somehow I connected directly - I noticed that the Internet is faster. I started to study the topic, I found out that with consamira pieces of iron, sharpened for some narrow tasks (routers, NAS-s), things are very bad: frankly bad processors are shoved inside, there is little memory, while everything is furnished like a super-duper: gigabit ports (I personally had a NAS that couldn't physically load a gigabit port even one-tenth of its width), the latest wifi standards.

Yesterday I almost bought a linksys ea4500, because on some tricky site with speed tests, new linksys were driving. But I accidentally got into the reviews on Yandex Market - some kind of horror is written there: it doesn’t give out the full speed, and they messed it up with the cloud, and it doesn’t work normally according to some protocols.

So, tell me a router that:
- will provide maximum speed
- maximum range
- will have convenient consumer features (such as connecting a usb screw, etc.)

On the Internet, I come across some reviews for dummies.

A friend recently recommended me this: market.yandex.ru/model.xml?modelid=8486674&hid=723087 says it works like clockwork)

I like my Zyxel Keenetic Giga. Directly 100Mbit pulls without problems. I don’t use WiFi very often, but at 25% of the power the smartphone catches perfectly on the other side of the apartment. Gigabit ports seem to be ok - in LAN from computer to computer it is copied to ~ 75MB / s (probably the hard does not have time faster). 2 USB ports. I don't have a NAS, but I use port 1 for a flash drive for goodies (a script for social networks). For six months of use, there was 1 freeze, I consider this a force majeure :)

From cheap, but fast - I use TP-Link TL-WR1043ND - gigabit ports, Wi-Fi capability: 500 mW and stit ~ 1700 r

If you are only interested in performance, see these soft routers mikrotik.ru/katalog/katalog/marshrutizatory/soho
There are honest performance tables. Small providers build networks on such pieces of iron

Look towards Mikrotik pieces of iron. In particular , market.yandex.ru/model.xml?modelid=7856103&hid=723087 or the one suggested above

Look for one that will support alternative firmware like DD-WRT, Tomato. There you will get much more stability and speed.
I myself am familiar with D-Link (I won’t advise anyone - it’s impossible to use it without dd-wrt at all), TP-Link (a couple of reboots a day are necessary for them) and Asus. I had a great WL-500G - a great router, but the second revision is no longer the same. And now I have 56U. Everything is stable and fast.
If you want something unusual and at the same time of high quality, then buy Mikrotik. Regular models are not much more expensive. But you have to read a lot of manuals and figure it out + it's hard to find on sale.

I would recommend zyxel keenetic.
The manufacturer is always available in hepldesk on his website, they promptly correct errors and answer questions.
Through L2TP \ PPTP pumps up to 70mb \ s

- will provide maximum speed
Asus routers have iron indicators on the Internet. The rest of the home routers hide these characteristics.
I have Asus RtN16 - it is probably the most powerful for its price category. Here is the specification.
CPU: Broadcom BCM4718 533MHZ (best from class)
RAM: 128MB (2x 64MB)
Flash: 32MB
ETH: 4x GIGABIT (LAN) 1x GIGABIT (WAN) USB
Ports: 2
WLAN: Dual Radio N
JTAG: Yes
the processor, the more the router heats up and passive cooling may no longer be enough - and this is noise, etc ...
Therefore, it’s too good here - it’s also bad - it’s not in vain that there are low-power processors. Still heating may depend on the software. It is necessary to choose the firmware.
You don't need a lot of RAM for typical tasks. Therefore, they usually save on it and this can become a problem.
In general, speed depends on many factors, and hardware is not always more important than software here.
— I haven’t seen the maximum range.
I haven’t seen any reviews — I need to look. But if not, then the number of antennas and reviews on them is a very good indicator.
It's also good to know if you can use your own antennas. If range is so important to you.
- will have convenient consumer features (such as connecting a usb screw, etc.)
Well, this is certainly in bulk in the description. Usb is on almost all modern wireless routers. The question may be whether it is possible to connect a specific 3G modem, for example, or something like that.
The features are still there:
1) 100Mb vs 1000Mb - I think the second option is better despite the decent price difference.
2) N vs G Wi-Fi protocol - support for N is definitely needed.
3) 1 band (2.4 GHz) or 2 (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), can 2 bands work simultaneously - this can significantly improve the data transfer speed of the router for a number of reasons - but the price difference is very big.
4) The presence of a usb hub - that is, the ability to connect several devices via usb - in general, it’s not critical.
5) The availability of alternative firmware and alternative support is very important, since the native software of all my routers is problematic.

If your pocket allows, you can order ALIX PC. A minimalistic x86 computer without the ability to connect a monitor, for example, but as a router, NAS and media server will do.
The bundle is adjustable, the WiFi module is separate, SATA is separate, 3G is separate - this whole configuration can be steered and made much more expensive or much cheaper. Might buy something in the future.
Most specialized Linux distributions require "just an x86 PC", namely ClearOS for enterprise server, ByzantRouter for WiFi mesh net, Amahi for home media server, and only Mikrotik Router OS has an ARM version, but this is the exception rather than the rule.

BUFFALO AirStation HighPower N300 - WZR-HP-G300NH Installed
open-wrt firmware. I connect to the beeline via l2tp, the tariff of 75/100 mb pulls over the wire without problems, at the time of downloading the torrent, the router processor is loaded minimally (I looked at the numbers, but I already forgot something, maybe up to 10% or up to 25% - if necessary, I’ll check again). I can’t objectively say about wi-fi, because there is no device that could test wi-fi in full. I advise you to read the forums.

I use a Linksys WRT320N and have no complaints. I can’t tell you about the maximum speed, but their reliability is not bad - I have never had problems, like a work colleague who has a younger model.

If you want everything to the maximum, then why are we talking about an all-in-one device? I have a separate access point, switch and system unit on Atom.

wnr612_300eng_8.pngThe NETGEAR WNR612 wireless router is based on Atheros chips - the AR7240 processor (MIPS, 400 MHz) and the AR9285 radio unit. The latter operates at a frequency of 2.4 GHz, supports 802.11b / g / n standards with a maximum performance of up to 150 Mbps. It has two antennas, but the MIMO mode is only 1 × 1, but it can work on two channels.

These microcircuits are connected via a standard PCI Express interface, and the used processor is very versatile, in particular, it has network ports (in fact, it supports up to four LANs and even USB 1.1).

In my opinion, the best in its pricing policy (1000-1500 rubles). I distribute simultaneously to 2 computers and pulls hd-online at the same time!

I took it from a chela here http://www.avito.ru/nizhniy_novgorod/tovary_dlya_kompyutera/wi-fi_routery_netgear_wnr612_150040426

A router is the same computer it has a processor, RAM and flash memory the more powerful the processor and the more RAM the better the faster the packets will be processed the more RAM and the more powerful the processor the more packets the router can process
in any router there is NAT its task is to convert ip addresses, for example, 192.168.1.101 to 65.96.14.77, this is a resource-intensive task if the router has a weak processor and little RAM, then the router cannot process many packets, as a result, the speed drops or the router freezes
At this point in time, NOT all routers can work correctly with ipv6
, I will list those that they can Mikrotik, d'link can (
I recommend to buy) but in TP-Link routers ipv6 support is declared but it does not work normally
