What is the best way to write a fork?

There are ideas by the end of the training, when I gain knowledge, to write a fork of the local multiplayer chat.
The original is written in C #, how difficult and realistic will it be to cut it under c ++ and qt to achieve multi-platform or look the other way?
Now I have neither the knowledge nor the time to create something like this, so at the same time I ask what to read from the literature on this matter? I plan to start by the summer
Well, I plan to have a web version.

If the amount of code there is 5000 - 10000, then you can try to rewrite it in C ++.
But it seems to me that at the current level it is worth writing in C #

In general, if you look at the code and understand what it does and why it is so, then you can fork anything, even 1C.
If you do not understand, then it is better to understand the topic here. And, accordingly, to improve knowledge in those areas in which there is no understanding.
