What is the best way to organize a file server on a router?

I found a suitable router (as it seems to me) D-Link DSL-2650U, there is OpenWrt custom firmware for it, I also rented a white IP address for myself from the provider. The main goal for me is to connect a 512 GB hard drive through the usb port, set up a WebDav / FTP server on a router with authorization (preferably with password protection), in order to eventually get a file server with access both on the local network and external. The question is how correctly I imagine all this, and I also ask for advice from those who have already implemented such a task, maybe I missed something.

D-Link DSL-2650U

hahahahaha, throw this shit away, buy a computer for ~ 5tr and an 8-port switch for 1000r, plug in a second network card and install linux, and the router will be normal and file washer

Which is better - NO
The router should route, an external drive with such a connection will work at a speed of ~ 10mbps

Such a bottom-link. Indeed, it's better to buy a small motherboard with passive cooling and assemble it into a file storage machine on Linux or FreeBSD. Dmitry Bachilo did the same: https://youtube.com/watch?v=EiKafkUcajs
