From the editor's point of view, do as you wish. On the engine side, there is a difference in performance and integration speed. If the model is solid, then it will go to the video card as a whole, if it is broken into pieces, then each piece will be drawn by a separate operation. If the pieces are small enough, then there is a chance that they will be glued together by dynamic batching, but then the question arises, why the hell was it necessary to break the model into pieces, so that later it would waste the processor's time gluing it back together. In addition to performance, you also need to remember about the cost of integrating models into the engine, if there are a hundred pieces and a hundred materials in a model, then it will be much more difficult to customize its appearance than one piece with one material. In general, if the engine does not need separate moving parts, then you don’t need to export them, but how everything will be in your editor depends on your workflow.

I am not a professional, but when I made models and inserted them into my projects, I divided them into several. In the future, it was convenient to make small objects move. For example, I made an airplane, and made the landing gear separately. As a result, I was able to get retractable landing gear
