What is the best combat system for auto-fights in MMORPGs?

There is a game in which auto-battles take place:
- one-on-one takes place
- swords, bows and magic are used
- at the beginning of the battle, each player sets some parameters due to which the outcome of the battle depends.
(e.g. defensive, attacking style).
PVP and PVE game
I think something like this has already been done somewhere, I would like to take it as a basis.

Add up the forces of the units (taking into account the bonuses mages > spearmen > cavalry > swordsmen > mages) and give the victory to the one who is stronger.

Assign "weight" to unit classes based on armor thickness, for example. Whoever has more goes first. The magician in this situation can have 2 attacks at once instead of one. You can come up with a lot of things, tell us more about the mechanics of the game.

take the mechanics from HMM. We select the first attacker (depending on some parameter of the unit, taking into account modifiers such as morality), we select the attacked (the battle strategy depends on the style (attack - we attack the remote units first, then the strongest, etc.)). Now we attack: damage * number of fighters + modifiers (luck-crit, experience, bonus from items, from other units, from buffs) minus the defense of the attacked = damage. We reduce the number of attackers.
We repeat the cycle until the units of one of the parties are exhausted or until the threshold is reached (say - 10% with low morale - flee from the battlefield).
