What is root useful for? What does root give you and what do you do with it?

Why did you root your device? I heard from several people that they cannot use the device without root, so I became interested in the usefulness of root.

I would say this: why do you need a device without root ?!)
Yes, nothing can be done without root!
Neither to clean the memory, nor to remove unnecessary applications, nor to configure the firewall, nor to configure the boot, nor to manage all system devices on the fly, well ....
Well, NOTHING AT ALL, except to call and play!
Your device without root is like a car without wheels: it seems like it is and can even drive, but they didn’t sell you wheels for it and you can’t go anywhere on it, in the end, you can’t)
UPD: About the guarantee, “brick” and updates: if you are asking questions like this, then you are not confident in yourself and in this case I do not advise you to get root until you understand all the risks and until you gain more knowledge in this area.

root requires drivedroid. using system calls, it displays a file lying in the file system (for example, a bootable iso image) on the cable as a device. and the computer can boot from the "android".
root is a multifunctional CNC machine, with skill you can do a lot with it.
And so, I quite agree, the layman should not be allowed to such pieces of iron in any case. shoot off his heel.

xposed (and a huge number of cool modules for it, including the obligatory xprivacy \ pmp), in fact, most of the use cases are here;
firewall;
root access to system directories, more than once spied on a forgotten wifi password, copied bookmarks from the browser;
wifi debugging
