What is needed to determine the azimuth in the phone?

Hello!
I need to determine the azimuth for the photo being taken.
As I understand it, you can only determine the azimuth of the device if it has a magnetometer.
At least for devices that are stationary.
Is this true or are there other methods?
And is there a library for determining the azimuth?
