What is more important: XMP profile of RAM or frequency limitation of the processor when working with RAM?

The processor locks up to 3200 MHz RAM. But if I enable the xmp profile in the bios, will the ram then work with a frequency of more than 3200, if the dies allow it? Or will the percent lock up to 3200 in any case?
