What is better to do RAID 10: storage spaces or built-in controller?

Greetings!
There is a SuperMicro X11SAE-O motherboard with an integrated Intel C236 controller. There are also 2x240 SSD and 4x480 SSD. It is planned to make RAID 1 from 2x240 for the system, and from 4x480 RAID 10 for the SQL database (I know that it is not the most optimal solution, but reliability is above all).
Actually the question is: what is the best way to do RAID, storage spaces or using the built-in controller (pluses / minuses of both methods)? Better primarily means reliability and speed (in that order, after the base on RAID 10 + spare on SAS disks, the difference in speed will still be noticeable, I think).
PS If it's important, then Xeon E3-1270v6 processor, 32 GB memory.

@Dvlbug

Similar to mdraid, same problems.
Controller:
+ higher speed, reliability of data integrity (Battery Backup Unit)
- if it fails, you will have to look for a similar one for quick recovery
