What is an EDS and what does it mean to “attach files to an application (electronic signature and agreement)”?

googling and asking people for a long time, but I can’t understand what an EDS is. There are 2 theories in total:
- An EDS is a file with some content that is used when signing other files through special software
- An EDS is a physical object that has "something" on board that allows you to use an EDS to enter personal accounts and so
on which theory is correct, and if both are incorrect, then what is EDS?

EDS - electronic digital signature.
A physical object is a token that stores an EDS and some other things in order to sign files (works in tandem with some crypto provider, for example, cryptopro)
You can sign files using an EDS without a token if the signature is in the form of a regular file.
