What is a sign for you that it is time to change the hard drive?
I would like to hear about ordinary and disks in a PC and server disks in RAID arrays ...

If the disk suddenly began to blunt - change immediately.
And so - smart
For servers - there is monitoring and smart, and actually if the raid showed a failure
. And for a home disk, in principle, I prefer to change the main disk every 5-7 years, even if everything is in order with it. Because I'd rather change it under controlled conditions, leisurely, than be left without a working computer and with the need to buy / change / install, set up here and now without a working tool. And the old disk can be used as a file dump.
