What is a concise book on Java and Android?

Is there such a thing? To start writing code right away while reading serious books like Eckel.
The best option is where an application is created throughout the book in order to see the solution to specific problems.

I think everything you want can be found in this book . From the very first pages, it discusses the main points (and not only) using the example of creating applications (from easy to complex). The book is great for beginners.
Also look at this book , in it you study and simultaneously write applications on the topic you are studying. It seems there are 7-8 applications covering different Android features.
I recommend the first book for learning, it is, first of all, newer, and it explains the main points in more detail. Both books require a basic knowledge of Java.
