What is a breakpoint?

I read one article and came across the word breakpoint:

"From the new and interesting - the site has finally become adaptive, there are 9 breakpoints, after hitting which the site is rebuilt for the convenience of specific users on a specific device."

I googled, but all sorts of unnecessary links came out like on VK (apparently I didn’t google it correctly).
