What image format is required for black and white illustrations for a book?
Printing houses have requirements for images for printing: 300 dpi, CMYK. But it's good for people of color.
What if the book has black and white illustrations? What format to choose?

It basically doesn't change anything. Send black and white CMYK 300dpi.
.tiff 300dpi Grayscale .
CMYK can fall out into some color tone when printed.
For you, the best option is to contact the printing house, where the book will be replicated, just in case.

If you need to print a B&W book, then the layout must be completely in Grayscale. You should not give a color file marked "Printing in BW" and hope for a printing house - printers are often hired from the same contingent as janitors and cleaners, and sometimes such notes to the layout do not reach them. Personally, I have already encountered such a situation; Fortunately, I did not prepare and send the layout. The customer got on the headstock (color printing is more expensive), and the printing house tried to get off
