What if the customer does not want to pay for the service?
Hello!
I had such a problem. In August 2013, I was asked to develop a website for a company. They found me through friends. The contract was not signed.
For 2 months I developed a site for them, but after the director of the companies told me that they had no money and asked me to administer the site. I did not give them access to the admin panel. Until March 2014, I maintained their website. And now they refuse to pay for the service, claiming that I did nothing. But their editors sent me information via gmail and I posted them on the site (all correspondence is available).
Yes, I understand that I did wrong by not concluding a contract.
What can be done now? What decisions can I make?
Can I block the site (their domain and hosting, their old site used to be there, I only have FTP access)?

well, you can just delete it if you are really right)
if the client does not want to pay - then most likely he will not pay, if there is no way to put pressure on him - delete the site and forget that you had this client ... somehow so.
Fill up the porn and quickly file a complaint with the police. They will be covered up and dragged through the courts. If there is access to ftp, then access to the database is not a problem to get. Make them a sweet life.
Judging by their behavior, they do not really need this site. But the money you, I believe, is just what you need. If you delete the site, they will be offended, indignant and spit on all this. So the method of taking the site hostage and subsequent blackmail is unlikely to work.
I would suggest that they first send them a well-written pre-trial claim in paper form. (Samples can be found on the Internet) This will show your seriousness, legal literacy (even if it is not :-), and the fact that you are ready to defend your rights in the legal field, and not just whine. Often, after receiving such a piece of paper, clients pay everything and the case does not reach the court.
Well, if you continue to ignore, sue. It's not as difficult as it seems.
Put on the site a redirect to competitors and score. The chances of getting money are minimal, it’s better to put up with it right away.
You can generally put all the correspondence with them on the Internet, not forgetting about letters with logins and passwords, I think there will be those who wish to use it.
PS. I generally have a rule until there is no payment, everything is spinning on my hosting.
I would not delete it, because in our great country they can drag you through the courts - it lies on their hosting. Yes, and it will not help you get money.
Just shut up and don't do anything else on the site. Look for other clients and remember this lesson for the future - work only according to the TOR and the contract.
Create a new site, put a redirect to the one because of which the dispute and describe in a new one your claims against this company, with the evidence you have, express your doubt that your customer can afford your services and offer a condition for solving this problem . If you want to get your money, you must put the customer in the same uncomfortable and disadvantageous position that you yourself are now in.
Good luck!
I would calculate and find out the debt.
I would go to a lawyer and get advice.
If it makes sense to file a lawsuit for compensation for the time spent and damage, then I would file it.
Who is the domain registered to? If you are, then you are the owner of the domain and can do whatever you want.
