What happens if you promote different domains that link to one?

What happens if you buy, for example, 4 domains, have 5 main (site), purchase the same runs for those 4 and set up redirects to the main site on them? What will be the effect on the main site?

Invest in content and quality on the main domain. Make it user friendly.
