What happens if you insert 4 sticks of 8GB RAM into an imac with a maximum of 4GB per stick and a total of 16GB?
I don’t have such slats, so I would try))
I think to buy more memory.
iMac (Mid 2010)
OS linux oraclre 7
what will be on the macos is not important.
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201191
Number of memory slots 4
Maximum memory 16 GB
For the iMac (Mid 2010) use 2 GB or 4 GB RAM SO-DIMMs of 1333 MHz DDR3 SDRAM in each slot.
Memory will be used at 90% 24/7.
What happens if you insert an 8GB stick into the slot?
The memory will not start up simply or will there be glitches with a reboot and errors associated with incompatible memory?
If it's not difficult, please write a detailed answer why ...
Thanks in advance :)
and if you think that I'm a pervert, because I use not only linux, but also oracle on imac,
then no, life made me spin)))

Sometimes it works out. I have it like this, but according to the specification, only 4GB should fit :-)
MacBook White Unibody, if so, I'm writing from it.
Read on the Internet about your model, do not look at the spec from the fruit company.
I can assume that you will have 32 gigabytes of memory. Since the manufacturer did not have 8 GB sticks at the time of the release of the model, they could not test such a number, therefore they did not write them into the supported list.
However, this is just a guess :) Other scenarios: the computer will not turn on, the computer will not see all the memory, the computer will not see the memory, etc.
