What exactly does wi-fi wi-fi do?

I do not quite understand what exactly WI-FI is (regarding the theory of computer networks). Everywhere a different definition is given: somewhere it is written that this is a wireless LAN technology, somewhere that it is a wireless LAN protocol, and somewhere that it is a wireless LAN itself.

There are many different LAN technologies: Blutooth, NFC... What exactly does WI-FI WI-FI do? IEEE 802.11 standard? Do you have a router or modem?

And one more question: if WI-FI is a wireless LAN technology / protocol, then why is WI-FI accessing the Internet (wide area network)? As far as I understand from the articles I have read, the local network is a local network because it does not have access to the global network - all information exchange takes place within the local network. Or now these terms "local" and "global" networks are somewhat arbitrary. Do these boundaries fade over time?

I do not quite understand what exactly WI-FI is (regarding the theory of computer networks).

This is a household term for a wireless network operating according to one of the IEEE 802.11 standards. Everyone, and especially marketers, put their own meaning into this concept. Technically, there are different international communication standards - sets of protocols, specifications and interfaces.
What exactly does WI-FI WI-FI do?

So historically, more details are written a little lower on the wiki:
Early 802.11 products suffered from interoperability problems because the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) had no provision for testing equipment for compliance with its standards. In 1999, pioneers of a new, higher speed variant, endorsed the IEEE 802.11b specification to form the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA) and branded the new Wi-Fi technology.

Why is WI-FI used to access the Internet (global network)?

Because the Internet is a combination of local networks. Technically, through this local network, access is made to the router, which in turn is connected to another local network, which is connected further ... - i.e. no access to a certain Internet in reality is not carried out.
Or now these terms "local" and "global" networks are somewhat arbitrary. Do these boundaries fade over time?

So you read the definition of LAN. This is not a network without the Internet, but just a network in a closed limited space.

It's just a wireless way to connect a client to a network. And everything else depends on the network holder. May be local/non-local And so on. Depends on network settings

wi-fi is a local network only wireless
connects to another local network with a cable (if it is an office) that goes to the provider
or to the provider if it is a home router through it and accesses the Internet again through the provider (usually by cable, but it can also be by washing connection)

Differences are becoming less and less, tk. it is more profitable to use universal technologies (in short) for different types of networks
if WI-FI is a wireless LAN technology/protocol, then why is WI-FI used to access the Internet (WAN)?

Well, devices are connected to the router via wi-fi , that is, it turns out a local network (if you go to the web interface of the router, you can see this clearly)

And the router (aka a router, from the word route "route") - already transmits data by wire to the global network
What exactly does WI-FI WI-FI do? IEEE 802.11 standard? Do you have a router or modem?

  • in simple words, Wi-Fi Wi-Fi connects devices to the router via a radio wave at a frequency of 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz
  • The IEEE 802.11 standard sets requirements under which the equipment is entitled to the appropriate certificate and the right to apply the Wi-Fi logo
  • the presence of a router provides access to the Internet

What exactly does WI-FI WI-FI do?

Compliance with the standard.
First of all, probably, such characteristics as a set of operating frequencies and a link layer protocol.
