What does the parameter on the port "no ip address" mean?

On the Cisco WS-C2950G-48-EI (ios Version 12.1 (19) EA1c), all ports are set by default to
no ip address
But this switch, it seems, is level 2 and the command
no switchport
is not applicable.
So why is this setting set? Who knows please explain!

Read that the port is not bound to the IP on which you can access the switch. It does not imply the execution of 3rd level operations.
Usually, IP has only a pseudo-interface with an administrative VLAN number, and physical ports can contain this VLAN in some form.
But you can assign ip to a physical port .. for example, for the dhcp relay function

What is there to know? Literally - ip is not assigned.
You can assign if needed.
