What does exit command do in terminal on mac?

I copied my project from github to my local machine and decided to exit the terminal with the command "exit"
"exit"
logout

...saving history...truncating history files...
...completed.
Deleting expired sessions...3 completed.
[Process completed]
```
PS Now I'm afraid to close the terminal, what could happen / I went to Google .. no one at home did not answer
