What does connection processing mean in Apache?

Question about the MaxRequestsPerChild option.
The following is written

The MaxRequestsPerChild directive sets how many requests one child process/thread can process before it is terminated.

What is meant by the word requests?

1. Type of clients? Each client is one request, regardless of how many documents were transferred in one session?
2. Type requests. For example, the client connected to the server. I pulled 20 files from the page being loaded. It turns out 20 requests? Or will it be one?
