What does Connection #0 to host localhost left intact mean and where can I find the original source, which contains descriptions of such messages?

I suspect that you went somewhere with wget/curl and the server you knocked on supports keep-alive, and therefore, theoretically, something else could be done through the same connection.
The description should probably be looked for in the manuals or directly in the source codes of the corresponding utilities.
