What does a hardware engineer need to know and be able to do?

It is the development of the hardware itself that is of interest, in order, for example, to create processors, video cards for computers, etc. Their insides, not software for them. In which university is it better to study, in which direction, what will you have to learn on your own. Ideally, I would like to work in the industry in cool companies like amd, nvidia, intel. (dreaming is not harmful)

Look for what they write here according to HDL Verilog.
If you are interested in obtaining a processor in silicon, look on the websites of Synopsis and Cadence companies - in which universities they have university programs. Like I named the correct firms?
If you are interested in developing a processor "on paper" and working with samples, look for the same on the websites of Xilinx, Intel / Altera, Lattice.

You need to know physics, chemistry, mathematics, and also be able to model an object in your head according to the initial data and knowledge - sometimes entering information into a computer takes too much time, but in your head it is faster. And then to describe what you clearly represent is much easier.
