What direction to study for freelancing?

There is no higher education, I studied programming a little (a couple of years ago). I would like to replenish my knowledge, and at the same time find out in which direction to move in order to be at least a little in demand as a remote specialist. I already have a job (also freelance), but there is a creative stupor, because of which I need to switch to the opposite type of activity.
Web programming is not interested. It's very popular but doesn't work for me. More interested in application development, working with databases and documents. Do not mind trying to work with mobile platforms. In which direction should I develop and where to start?

1. Получение базовых навыков, которых хватит для того, чтобы устроится стажером в компанию, по тому направлению, которое вам нравится (или смежному). Судя по тому, что вы уже фрилансите, у вас это есть.
2. Получение опыта в роли джуниора.

Фриленсеров полно. И большая их часть работает за копейки.
Хорошо зарабатывают только профи.
Профи - это годы совершенствования.
Годы - это скучно.
Вывод: хочешь зарабатывать, занимайся тем, что интересно.

Как вариант, если крупный город -- находишь ближайший хакспейс, и присоединяешься к подходящему проекту.
