What did C look like before K&R?

I heard that in C the first standard is K&R C. But this book appeared in 1978, and C in 1972. What did C look like during these 6 years?

The language book is not a language standard.
The first standard for C is ANSI C (C89), before which the language was not standardized and was highly dependent on a specific compiler (although in some places, especially in embedded, this can still be found).
