What device to take for testing android?

Looking for a phone or, in extreme cases, a tablet on which to test different versions of android and different firmware?
Which device is better to take so as not to suffer with unlocking the bootloader, etc.?

In principle, you can take the Nexus, Pixel families. Google puts firmware on them. I updated and downgraded on Nexus 5 without any problems. But what's the point, is there an emulator?

The one for which there is good support from LineageOS (Cyanogen) - choose and read about the installation process. And the bootloaders are now almost everywhere blocked, the only difference is in the way of unlocking.

Your question seems strange to me.
Why test different versions of android on a specific device?
If we are talking about testing applications, then the point is not only in android versions, but also in system requirements and optimization for hardware resources.
