What could be the problem with connecting a PC directly to the WAN?

If you connect the router to the network, then it successfully receives an IP:

But if you connect the PC directly to the network, then nothing happens:

The provider's DHCP server is configured to issue an IP address to your router (based on the MAC address), and the MAC address of your computer is not in the provider's DHCP server settings, so the address is not issued.
