What could be the problem when downloading fonts from https?

The site has been moved to HTTPS. In the CSS file, I had imports of google fonts. They didn't load anything, the console says blocked. What is it, are we being forced to use everything with HTTPS?

Yes, if your site works on https, then all external files must also be used on this protocol.
But there shouldn't be any problems with fonts from Google, it renders them perfectly via https.

So the browser should swear at unencrypted content but still download it.

-- Именно так. Представьте, -- вы показываете пользователю что сайт=страница безопасный (HTTPS), а кто-то в рядом в кафешке (в которой сидит ваш пользователь) подменил HTTP скрипт и внедрился в вашу страницу.
