What could be the cause of GPU overheating?

Hello, probably not the best place for such a question, but I can not find a more suitable place.

I have an Asus laptop with a GTX 740m graphics card. Previously, there were no problems with overheating, the temperature did not rise above 80 degrees under prolonged load.
What now? Now it heats up to 55 - 57 degrees, as it was before (its normal temperature at medium / high load), works in this state for about two minutes and the temperature suddenly starts to rise above 85 degrees, from which the laptop goes into reboot.
At the same time, the cooler starts to work at maximum speed, the radiator is hot (that is, not a sensor error).

I changed the thermal paste, the cooler is working. What could be the reason and does it make sense to repair this?

Hello.
It is possible in this case to assume that you have applied the thermal paste poorly / little to the crystal.
Try again to apply thermal paste on the video core chip, and smear it on the heat pipes in the same way.
