as I understand it, by hardware hacking you understand Row hammer and others like it??
the attack can take place in any place where there is a suitable "hole" choice and implementation depends on the author of hacking.
but still, most of the attacks are on software components. and the backdoor is built into the program code of the operating system or its components.
