What CMS to study and use to create online stores?
A universal CMS is needed, under which any layout could be adjusted.
Whatever requirements the customer has, so that they can be implemented!
So that you can add additional fields to products, place an order in any way (From simple sending of EMAIL, as on landing pages, to full accounting in the site database and integration with CRM).
Now I'm looking towards Wordpress + WooCommerce. worked with WP + VisualComposer and Unyson.
We need the opinion of a person who has already "shoveled" all this.

Whatever requirements the customer has, so that they can be implemented! - You turned it down :)
web-mehanik correctly said that there is nothing universal
Wordpress + WooCommerce - it's terrible :) - wordpress is still a blog, first of all,
of course, wookomers adds store functions to it, but when it comes to adding something, then you have to pervert and stability and speed, this has its effect on
Presta - a full-fledged IM engine
, of course, not everything is easy there, but most of the functions already work out of the box
and accounting and combinations of goods (color, weight, size ...)
bonuses, discount system , buyer groups
and it looks like the developers are moving in the right direction
I use a bunch: CMS Joomla! + Joomshopping
I really like Joomshopping, that you can simply (in terms of coding) add any payment systems, fields and much more.
Make your own design on the invoice for the purchased goods, which can be automatically sent to the buyer.
Built-in order database, processing history and order status at all stages and for customers! (i.e. consider CRM built-in)
In general, I advise you to take a look!
ModX + Shopkeeper
OpenCart - it won't work on any layout , but perhaps the simplest engine for a store out of the box.

study what you like best, your question is initially incorrect, since there is nothing universal in the world
If you are interested in the opinion of the person who created the CMS, then I can recommend my PHPShop 5 product .
A universal CMS is needed, under which any layout could be adjusted.
- The simplest TPL templating engine you've ever seen. All actions with templates can be carried out immediately in the admin panel through the template editor. Purchased bootstrap templates are planted in 1-2 days without tambourines.
- For each type of delivery, you can assign your own fields through the order field constructor.
Demo to see: democentre.phpshop.ru
Demo to "touch": www.phpshop.ru/mydemo/ PS
, there is a completely Free version, but it's very truncated: phpshopcms.ru
After a long search, I settled on DotPlant2 , the engine is free, but I still think that WordPress is not suitable for such a task, especially if the site will have many positions. consider it, it will work with any template, and many functions for online stores have already been implemented, and additional functions can be added.
Compared Drupal+Ubercart, Prestashop, Bitrix, OpenCart.
In my opinion, it is most convenient to work with Prestashop.
Drupal+Ubercart and Bitrix require the services of a programmer even for the design of the text part of the pages.
OpenCart looks like the little brother of Prestashop (I think in 3 years OpenCart will be like Prestashop now). The first thing that catches your eye is that when installing modules in OpenCart, you have to "scatter" files into ten folders - a strange approach.
In Prestashop, an ordinary PC user can independently run a store, turning to a programmer only if they need some kind of functional changes or for redesign.
