What CMS is suitable for a small site?

I had an idea - to create a website and place a memory training program on it, with elements of a competition (in general, not the point). I am a little savvy with PHP and js, I can implement what I have in mind. But which CMS to install? And is it really needed?
The site must have user profiles, ie. they must register. Perhaps there will be articles and their discussions, well, a simulator. How to implement it? Share your experience, I have never created websites.

Wordpress will do. (registration, articles and discussions) - it's easy to finish the functionality you need.
Own engine - take a framework (yii2 for example) and quickly roll up the site. Given the extensions available for connection - to raise a blog, registration, etc. - you can very quickly.
