It all depends on the laptop model. For some, you can put a disk, for some there is a stove next to it, but such that it is more logical to put an additional fan. You can remove the bar with connectors if this model has unused connectors on the board - the same 3g modem. In general, it is necessary to dance on the model and its current characteristics, both static (memory, processor, etc.) and changing with time (temperature, for example).
If it’s already completely extraordinary things, then you can also cut down a coffee stand. Or a tray for just small things. And you can also insert a blocker, like the dude made a lock with an arduino that opens by knocking.

accelometer, compass, gps
An additional disk, possibly a card reader (if there is a matching size)
