What can be used to assemble an RFID visitor control system?

Greetings, for the sake of interest, I want to build a system for recording visits using RFID tags, i.e. a person walked within a radius of 2 m from the reader and a notification was received by phone or mail. For example a system like progul.net . Are there any inexpensive solutions for this task? With what the reader will send a request to the Internet7

First, understand the types of tags and the reception distances from them . To drive data to the Internet is a quick matter, but if the labels are "wrong" - there will be no kin.
The architecture of the solution is simple:
READER -> CONTROLLER -> TECHNOLOGICAL NETWORK -> SERVER -> INTERNET -> MAILING PROVIDER
The reader-controller section will most likely have an industrial interface like RS485.
Industrial network - regular ETHERNET or RS485 + RS485-USB converter directly to the server.
The first is better, then the server can be made virtualized.
MAILING PROVIDER - anything can be here - email, sms, Telegram bot, self-made application - a notification to popular platforms.
Малобюджетное решение - совместить все это в одно устройство на базе одноплатника. То есть, подключить считыватель прямо к RPi, и сервер запустить на ней же.
Плюсы - дешево, сердито, можно пару месяцев провозиться с написанием Glue Code и даже припаять два провода. Можно собрать два-три комплекта, разместить из рядом и получить неубиваемую систему с резервированием.

Вам чем-то не подходят обычные СКУД?
Видите ли, у RFID проблем в этом плане будет больше - метку идеалогически подносить не нужно, а это означает, что будут недосрабатывания.
