What can be done with the network and devices connected to it, having access to the router (router)?

Hello. Recently I was interested in a question, but I could not really find an answer to it. What can an intruder do that has gained access to the router (entered "admin" in the login and password :) )? Somewhere else I heard the phrase: "I got access to the router and sent a virus pointwise to the ip address . " I just recently started to study the topic of networks, so please answer my question!

Can download the firmware to your router from offsite, change it and flash your router.

Create a botnet (99% of the cases, why do routers break)
Stir up a MIM attack, and for unencrypted connections, simply intercept the traffic of your devices and do something with them

if the router is advanced (such as Mikrotik), then it can make itself a VPN through it and shit, framing you

Much depends on the purpose for which it was done. If they opened it simply because they opened it - usually the router is harnessed to a botnet, to spoil other people. If they opened it without a purpose, harness it to a botnet - well, they can stir up MitM, view traffic.
If it was purposefully opened, then again MitM, viewing unencrypted traffic, local analysis - maybe you have video surveillance in your bedroom there :) It is also possible to try to intercept VPN connections, if any.
Rare, but possible (requiring a combination of a considerable number of factors) - You have children and video surveillance of them. Guess from three times why the attacker will need access (if he is a pervert, for example)
