What can be done with an old (second) router?
Hello. There is one router (the same as at the peak (D-link DSL-2640U)). It’s a pity to throw it away, I would like to do something with it, but knowledge in this does not reach the required level. Fluently read that you can make a proxy server, local network or repeater out of it. I would like to have something from the list in descending order. The question is more about the capabilities of the router. I would not mind personally chewing manuals and materiel (if you give parting words). I will also be very grateful for a ready answer. Thanks

You should start by installing an alternative firmware, for example, OpenWRT.

And there already a lot of opportunities will open up - with a caveat to the limitations of the hardware of this router)
If there are no specific tasks, then it is difficult to invent. I would either make it as a pure AP to the main router, or just switch if there are a lot of wired devices.
