What can be an alternative solution for GPS trackers?
Good afternoon.
I need to install a GPS (not GLONASS) monitoring (tracking) system on a car. The functionality is minimal: tracking the position in real time (minimum accuracy up to several meters, the frequency can be several seconds) and saving the track. I don't need hardware status or anything like that.
When I ask a search engine a tracking request, I get links to devices of varying degrees of complexity and prices. At the same time, as I noticed, cheap devices are accompanied by the need for a rather expensive subscription, and this is in addition to mobile communications.
I had a question, is it possible to use in my case the simplest solution in the form of a cheap mobile phone with GPS, with a SIM card inserted and connected directly to the car's power connector (fortunately there are several of them in the cabin)? I can track it in the same Google maps (Find my phone) and the history of movement will be saved on it. You will have to pay only for mobile communications.
It seems that everything is simple, but I did not come across such a solution on the Internet (in any case, no one shared such experience). Are there any pitfalls here? Or, after all, is there a hardware solution at an adequate price with service coverage around the world?
Thank you.
