What books to read on machine learning?

Advise books from which it is better to start learning machine learning.

For starters, you can take some online courses, and then move on to serious literature.
There is a review of many books on ML here. They are all in English, yes. I won’t say anything about Russian-language literature, but there is a short list of references

Get started with machine learning courses on Coursera. I have a friend who has just gone through them and recently got a job in Berlin in this direction.

Yandex recently posted its lectures on machine learning on Habré. I started watching - a more fundamental approach than Andrew's (his course was also interesting).
As for reading, I, for example, immediately after the course took up building ml systems with Python.
Very detailed book and with language at once.
