What are the ways to register a .edu domain?

So, the task is given to find ways to register a .edu domain for an educational institution.
Namely, where to turn and to whom what to write?
On the site https://net.educause.edu/EduDomain/Request
It is written that registration is not yet possible. But still I would like to know what algorithm of actions should be?
Some educational institutions in the CIS have received this domain and "use" it (despite the fact that it is written that "Only US universities that have been accredited by an institution in the US Department of Education's list of Nationally Recognized Accredited Agencies can receive an Internet name in the .edu domain .")
Who interacted with such a domain? Any information is needed.

You will not be able to register a domain in the .edu zone ( unless, of course, you are registering it for a US university that has been accredited by an institution on the US Department of Education's list of Nationally Recognized Accredited Agencies ). Russian universities usually register addresses on edu.ru subdomains . But in my opinion, this is not reasonable, because, firstly, you will get an unsightly address on a subdomain, and secondly, you will be constantly dependent on the decisions of the owner of the edu.ru address, which is not good.
My advice: register your site in the . education . There are also specialized zones ( . academy , . institute , etc.), but it makes no sense to register in them, since the organizational form of your university may change over time and it will turn out badly.

everything is very simple
1) return to 1996-1998, turn on dialup
2) send an application in English in free form with NSs to [email protected]
