What are the types of GUI elements?

Good day!
I'm trying to figure out how to build the right GUI for the program. It would seem a simple question, but how to correctly place interface elements by type is not clear.
I know that there is a type "controls", this includes, say, the "stop" button in a video player.
Actually, this is where my knowledge ends.
What other types of GUI are there besides "controls" ?

In interface design theory, there is no division into "types" that you are trying to describe. It is conditionally possible to distinguish between active controls (buttons, sliders, lists, checkboxes, tabs) and static ones (labels, icons).
