There is the following task. There is an organization that has a multi-terabyte ftp / smb / nfs storage inside the network, behind the VPN. This repository contains multi-gigabyte files with materials on experiments. The organization can and wants to provide access to some of these files from the Internet via the REST API.
At the same time, the organization does not want to copy these files, but simply provide access to them, and let them continue to lie where they lay.
