What are the reliable ways to protect .Net applications?

Happy New Year, colleagues!
I am engaged in game development and the question arose of writing my own engine. In principle, even without taking this into account, I would like to decide in the direction of which language to develop. I really like C# and have some experience writing XNA and would love to use it as a Monogame. Having some experience in game development, I know how sometimes it can be very easy to hack a game, which, as I understand it, is especially easy for .Net, due to its features. I tried to search for some information on the Internet, came across articles listing / comparing obfuscators or protections, in the comments to which there were reviews that they had already been successfully hacked, or deobfuscated to a completely sane state. Well, all the information that I found, in its absolute majority, is already outdated.
Therefore, I would like to ask advice from those who deal with this in practice: if I use Mono to develop an engine / games, how / how can I reliably protect the application, including from modifications?
Another option is to use C++, but I haven't written in it for so long that it would be tantamount to learning again.

In principle, you can use the server part, on which all parameters are regulated and filtered, and only their values are transferred to the game, this is the case in network games.
