What are the differences between headsets that can switch volume on Apple devices and Samsung devices?

Recently, not fully entering the topic, I bought Sennheiser [...] IEi headphones. In Sennheiser terminology, "IEi" at the end of the model name means the headset works with Apple devices, and "IEG" with Android devices and the Samsung Galaxy series in particular. In one of the online stores specializing in the sale of products of this company, "IEi" cost $ 10 more, and Yandex.Market presented iPhone support as an additional option, and not as an "either-or"0B6AjBi7kBbFaTkVvcy02cmFhcW8?e=download&I was going to use the headphones mainly with my Samsung Galaxy, but I have an iPad, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to support Apple devices. Having bought the headphones, I tested their work on the iPad and on the Galaxy, they work both there and there, including the microphone, but the volume switches only on the iPad, the Galaxy does not react in any way to pressing these buttons. At first I sinned on the pinout, but after reading the Internet on this topic, I realized that the problem was not in it (well, or not entirely in it). The headphones use the CTIA pinout standard used by Apple and many other companies. If the Galaxy used a pinout of another standard (for example, typical for Android OMTP), the microphone would not work, and the sound would have to be muffled, and the pause / rewind button would not be perceived, which does not happen. The sound quality is the same (to my ears, I didn’t check it with professional tools), the microphone, as well as pause / rewind, work both there and there. The problem is with the volume buttons.
The question is, what is the difference between headsets for iOS / Android and is it possible to do something with the buttons without the help of a soldering iron? Well, software, that is.
