What are the capabilities of game engines?
Is it possible to implement non-standard game mechanics on ready-made game engines? For example, minecraft can be made on unity?

Non-standard? Pretty standard mechanics. I see no problem making Minecraft on Unity.
And, in my opinion, there is even such a one, Block Story, if I'm not mistaken.
It depends on what engines (and what is generally considered an engine). On Unity3D it is possible, on Construct2 - hardly.
