What are the brakes on the first opening of the site?

Server with FeeBSD 9, Apache, MySQL, PHP.

When you first visit the site, after being idle for about 20 minutes, there is a delay of several seconds. It does not matter which file and from which directory is opened. Where to smoke?

PS An important clarification, the server is virtual, it is administered from VMware vSphere. I thought somewhere in vSphere there is a jackdaw in the spirit of "suspend the disk when idle", but I did not find it.

I would start by digging towards the disk. It is quite real that it is cut down, you access the site, the disk starts up. But that's a pretty crazy assumption.

Well, on my home Windows, I would say that after a 20-minute downtime, the screw was turned off to save energy, and since I have an hdd, it takes a really long time to access it, relatively.
First, try opening a file on your web server that has nothing to do with your site and your virtual host. If the behavior is the same then try a different web server.
