What are the analogues of the WinFS (Windows Future Storage) system?

The task is to organize data storage (file size can be from 100kb to 10Gb) according to the approximate Windows Future Storage scheme:
file storage->database->interface->user
Information will be added to each file: description, categories, tags, etc. . (metadata) to search by different criteria. The same file can belong to different categories and tags, so the option of creating a folder structure directly on the server is not suitable:
1) you have to copy the file to different folders
2) the file size can be large
3) synchronization of changes (shortcuts to files will also have to synchronize)
4) the inevitable growth of the folder structure. there will be a lot of categories
The system should be able to access the files through the familiar explorer interface - Windows users should be able to connect to the file server and see the folder structure as if the files were simply copied by folder according to the categories in the database.
Most of all, this description fit the WinFS (Windows Future Storage) system, which was never published. What are the analogues or in which direction to look at the solution of the issue?
